What Difference Does It Make?

Titus 2:11-13 (NIV)

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled,upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

Friday morning broke beautifully, with just a little fog hanging in the mesquite trees.  There were turkeys gobbling everywhere…

I love to turkey hunt, mostly to call turkeys.  When I was younger I had a tendency to often shoot and miss turkeys while hunting.  I haven’t missed a turkey in years, but friends have and I always encourage them by saying, “what difference will it make in your life tomorrow?”  Friday was my turn, I missed what golfers call a “chip shot” at 15 yards.  Even worse we got that miss and my friend’s miss as well… All on film.

When we both missed I turned to my friend in disbelief and said, “how did that happen… But really what difference will it make tomorrow?”. My own words came back to me.

Instead of holding on to things that don’t make a difference in our lives we need to allow our lives to reflect how thankful we are for what Christ has done for us on the cross.  As Christians we should love Christ so much. We say I don’t want this life anymore. We should hate sin. We don’t want to live for earthly possessions anymore, we want to live for Christ. God has granted believers repentance.

We have a change of mind about everything and a new direction in life. Getting to know Christ more and spending time with Him causes worldliness in our lives to fade.

Ask yourself this. Do you want this life or the next life? You can’t have both! If someone has truly put their faith in Jesus Christ they will not be a friend of the world.

They will not live in darkness. They will not live for material possessions. All these things that the world desires will rot in the end. We must make war.

We must make sure that things never become an obsession and obstacle in our lives. We must be careful. It’s so easy to start going back to things of the world.

When you take your mind off Christ then it will be put on the world. Christ died for you. Live for Him. Let Christ be your ambition. Let Christ be your focus.

C.S. Lewis once said,

“Don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose.”

What difference will any worldly thing make tomorrow?
