Psalms 14:1
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.
This morning many of us will wake up to a joke being pulled on us… Or playing a joke on someone else. I’ve had some good ones pulled on me and pulled a few myself.
There aren’t many people that like to be “made the fool”. We like to be seen as intelligent, sharp or studious. But if we were to compare ourselves to what the Bible says, we all play the fool from time to time.
Did you know that the Bible says we are fools if we . . .
- are always losing our temper (Proverbs 29:11)
- We are spreading slander (Proverbs 10:18)
- think we’re right in our own eyes rather than listening to wise counsel (Proverbs 12:15)
- reject our father’s discipline (Proverbs 15:5)
- delight only in revealing our own mind rather than in understanding (Proverbs 18:2)
- are perverse in speech instead of walking in integrity (Proverbs 19:1)
- quarrel instead of keeping away from strife (Proverbs 20:3)
All of us do one or all of these things from time to time. We are all foolish at times. But the truly foolish person is the one that was described in Psalms 14:1. There aren’t to many that will verbally say that there is no God… But many live that way and that’s the sign of someone who “says with his heart” and not his mouth.
When we acknowledge that there is a God, not only with our mouth but with our heart, then we’ve started to live like we believe in Godly principals. It will show in how we treat others, by thinking of them more than ourselves, forgiving others and keeping God first in our own life, etc… We will be a different person when we trust God over our own desires.
This April fools day don’t play the fool. Live with God at the center of your heart… It will reflect in your life.
Now go play a good April fools joke on someone
