Psalm 63:1-2 (NKJV)
O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.
I’m a turkaholic… Like those that get up at an AA meeting and first must admit to their addiction… I must admit that I am addicted to calling and hunting wild turkeys.
I’ve often wondered how anyone could spend a week’s vacation and lots of money to go play golf out of state… And then I think about what some of us turkaholics spend to try to outwit a stupid bird with the brain the size of a walnut.
I’m addicted to the rush of calling in a turkey, to hear them gobble from the roost in the predawn morning. I love it all.
What does it mean to be addicted? It means that you can’t get along without it. You have a craving and a longing for it and you will do whatever it takes to get it, it drives you and you want it every second of the day if you can get it.
I long to be addicted like that to my God. To not be able to get through my day without spending as much time as possible. I love the relationship that I have and want more, much more. It drives me. I publish these devotionals Monday – Friday and on my weekends I feel like I’m missing something… That something is the special time with the Lord while I read and write.
Are you addicted to a relationship with Christ? Can you live without Him? If the answer is “no”, consider what you’re missing. Our God is the creator of all things. He’s all-powerful, all-knowing, He’s all-loving. Of all that we could strive to have in our lives, why would we want anything more than a close relationship with Him.
I got up at 4:00am to meet the morning in the turkey woods. I plan to meet my Lord there as well. He’ll be waiting for me. Will you be meeting him this morning?
Become addicted to Him.
