Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
I had an old friend that was an extremely avid turkey hunter by the name of Max. Max lived in Springfield mo when I knew him but he was a retired Lt Colonel from the army and had lived all over the world. Whenever I talked to Max I would ask him how many turkeys he had taken. His answer was always his current harvest total. Then I would ask, “which one is the hardest?”. His answer was always the same, ” the next one”. Then I would ask, “how many will you take.”. To which he always said, “100 then I’ll quit killing them.”
I knew Max was getting close to his 100 birds and one year at Christmas Max called to tell me he had finally done it. He had taken #100. I asked, “now what will you do?”. His answer was as always, “I’ll quit”. In January I got a call from my friend Colonel Jim Newbill who had introduced me to Max. Jim called to tell me that Max had passed away.
Max took #100 and quit turkey hunting. God had a plan that Max had spoken into for many years.
We make plans and we think ahead to the future. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but God does. We have no promise of earthly life beyond this breath. Our life is but a vapor, here for this moment and gone the next (James 4:14).
My dad had a saying that I use often and now friends use it. When my mom would worry about something he, or one of her kids, would do, he would simply say, ” if you’re born to hang you’ll never drown.”. As if to say, my days are numbered and God has it planned.
God knows what He has planned for you and me. He knows and has prepared for our needs. There is no need to worry about tomorrow… He has it covered.
I’ve heard it said that long before Zaccheaus couldn’t see Jesus, the tree was already planted for him to climb.
God knows and has a plan, there’s no need to worry. Luke 12:25 says,
“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”
Let go and let God
