Psalm 23:1-3 (NIV)
The Lord is my shepherd, I will want for nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
Every good land manager knows that the deer on his or her property need green foods. The shepherds of the Bible times knew this same thing about their sheep. They understood that the sheep needed good nutritious feed to thrive.
Deer hunters today know that wildlife don’t just need good nourishing food during the hunting season, but year round. If the bucks are going to be strong and healthy and grow big antlers, they will need protein in large quantities as well as many other minerals. Does as well need the right nutrition to help produce what they need to nurse their young and still have enough energy to stay in good condition.
Christians today need an adequate amount of spiritual nutrition to not only grow, but to just survive in our world today. Christians are not thriving multiplying God’s family, because we are not healthy. We’re lacking the spiritual nutrition that allows us to be as healthy as possible.
God’s people have not been going to the “green pastures” of God’s Word to get the nutrition they need to grow, thrive and multiply. Like a female deer that is too weak to produce the next generation, a Christian that is not fed high quality spiritual food will not be spiritually strong enough to produce the next generation within God’s family.
There is a difference between the Christian not getting what they need to grow and a deer or deer herd lacking in nutrition. The deer will go through times if stress where there is no quality food to be eaten, while God’s people have a constant supply of spiritual nourishment. All of us have access to God’s Word, the Bible, if you don’t have one handy today you have it on your desktop computer or your laptop, your tablet or your phone. There is a never ending supply, all we have to do is to consume it on a regular basis. There are so many things in life that would be much easier if we relied on God’s supply of high quality nutrition.
Christians, live to your fullest potential by being consistent students of the God’s Word, the Bible. Biblical nutrition will help you stand strong and defeat the devil throughout your life all the while giving God the Glory.
