Romans 15:5-6
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6 so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Who is God’s Church? It’s it the Baptist Church on the corner? The Presbyterian Church on the Highway? The Catholic Church on the hill? Or maybe the Lutheran or Methodist Churches down town? Yes and no…
God’s church is His people in His family. For too long we’ve held our doors closed to the church down the street for fear that some of our people might leave and go there instead.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe that we serve one God and there is only ONE way to heaven and anybody or any church preaching differently is wrong. However a congregation that is preaching and living out salvation through faith in what Christ did on the cross and His rising from the tomb and a necessity to give Him total Lordship over our lives… They are part of THE Church. We are all one body.
In the movie “God’s Not Dead II” you will see pastors coming together. We need to not only bring pastors together but congregations of believers together to serve the Lord, server our communities and serve each other. We need the strength of the numbers of all Christians in a community to make the biggest impact possible. We are all one family, we need to start living like it. Remember,
John 13:35 tells us Christ’s words,
“by this all will know that you are my disciples, if you truly love one another.”
A man by the name of A.T. Pierson once said,
“To a true child of God, the invisible bond that unites all believers to Christ is far more tender, and lasting, and precious; and, as we come to recognize and realize that we are all dwelling in one sphere of life in Him, we learn to look on every believer as our brother, in a sense that is infinitely higher than all human relationships. This is the one and only way to bring disciples permanently together. All other plans for promoting the unity of the Church have failed.”
In the times that I believe are coming, when there will be pressure on the church to fall in line with government thought and regulation, I believe we either blow open the doors of our congregations or those doors will eventually be chained shut. We must learn to be one body, one family, one army for God. There is no room for divisions amongst us.
1 Corinthians 11:18 (NKJV)
For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.
Don’t allow these divisions. Those that know Christ and give Him lordship in our lives ARE His Church.
If we all work together there is nothing that we can’t do for Him.
